Tip of the Month Recipient | The Hoskins Family

hillarh

All tips given the month of March will be donated to the Chandler Hoskins family of Minster. Chandler is 21 years old, son to Wesley and Amanda, and has five other siblings: Mikaela, Reese, Shelby, Eva, and Jaxson. He was a graduate from Minster High School.

On October 26, 2024, Chandler was in an automobile accident in Ft. Loramie on his way home from the police academy. He experienced seizures on the scene and was care-flighted to Miami Valley in Dayton. There, they assessed severe fractures of his body, including his jawbone, pelvis, right femur, left tibia, fibula, and right foot that needed reconstructed in several places, in addition to injuries to mesenteric and iliac arteries and a traumatic brain injury (TBI). He also underwent emergency abdominal surgery for removal of several sections of bowel that were injured. During this time, Chandler was put in an induced coma for four days. He spent one week in the ICU and was transferred to the med-surg floor until Nov. 8, where he was then transferred to the Ohio State Dodd Rehabilitation Hospital in Columbus. While there, Chandler learned how to get in and out of a wheelchair and do daily skills while being non-weight bearing on both legs. He returned home to Minster on Nov. 15 where he was able to move into his parents’ handicap-accessible home and begin doing therapy. Since returning home, a herniated disk has been found in his spine, causing a setback in strengthening his legs. He has also experienced significant weight loss due to his jaw being sewn shut for healing, and he has fought a continuous battle with colitis and figuring out what he can all eat. His neck injury also caused weight restrictions in his rehabilitation process. Despite these obstacles, Chandler continues to do therapy at Xcel Physical Therapy in Anna and can now walk with a cane. 70% of Chandler’s legs still have nerve damage, but there is hope that these nerves could come back in the future and his mobility could continue to improve with time and therapy. Chandler also continues to seek vision therapy in Columbus for his TBI. Please continue to pray for Chandler and his family through his recovery.

Chandler’s hobbies include shooting and bowling, in addition to working at H.A. Dorsten’s Construction and Nidec Minster prior to his accident. Chandler has his sights set on returning to the police academy and becoming a police officer one day. Your generous donations will help cover Chandler’s ongoing medical bills. Thank you and God bless!
